Morocco's King Mohammed VI laid on Wednesday the foundation stone of "the Mohammed VI football academy" near the city of Sala Al Jadida, at a total cost of US$19 million. Stretching on 18 ha, the new facility mainly aims at identifying and training soccer players through an educational system combining sport and study.
According to MAP, the system will enable students, aged between 12 and 18, to have a football career or pursue their studies in other institutions. The academy is expected to receive the first class in September 2009.
It should be mentioned that about two years ago, the famous Spanish football club of Real Madrid announced its intention to set up a football academy for young Moroccans in Tangier.
