Saudi stock market grows by over 22% since outset of 2009

tadawulAt the end of May 2009 TADAWUL All Share Index (TASI) closed at 5,893.34 points, gaining 267.83 points, say a growth of 4.67% compared to April 2009. On an YTD basis TASI registered a positive return of 22.70%.


In a statement by the bourse authorities it was said that total equity market capitalization at the end of May 2009 reached SR 1,130.97 billion (US$ 301.59 billion), growin by 6.89% over the previous month. The total value of shares traded for last month reached SR 194.41 billion (US$ 51.84 billion), increasing by 47.65% over the previous month.

 

The total number of shares traded reached 8.59 billion shares for the month of May 2009 compared to 6.52 billion shares traded during the previous month, increasing by 31.79%. The total number of transactions executed during the said month amounted to 4.82 million compared to 3.79 million trades for April 2009, rising by 27.42%.

 

The percentage share of Saudi nationals from the market trades was (93.0%)for selling which is SR 180.76 billion and (91.7%) for buying which is SR 178.29 billion. The percentage share of Saudi firms from the market trades was (1.7%) for selling which is SR 3.38 billion and (2.5%) for buying which is SR 4.95 billion.

 

The percentage share of investment funds from the market trades was (1.4%) for selling which is SR 2.81 billion and (1.6%) for buying which is SR 3.12 billion. The percentage share of GCC nationals from the market trades was (1.4%) for selling which is SR 2.68 billion and (1.5%) for buying which is SR 2.88 billion. The percentage share of Arab residence in Saudi Arabia from the market trades was (1.9%) for selling which is SR 3.70 billion and (1.9%) for buying which is SR 3.71 billion. The percentage share of foreigners residence in Saudi Arabia from the market trades was (0.2%) for selling which is SR 477.99 million and (0.2 %) for buying which is SR 433.73 million. The percentage share of foreigners via swap agreement from the market trades was (0.3%) for selling which is SR 585.20 million and (0.5%) for buying which is SR 992.46 million.
