Yemen wheat production up by 46%
Posted: 19-05-2008 , 09:24 GMT

WheatYemen's production of wheat went up during 2007 to 218,000 tons, the state-run 26sep.net has said. According to Yemen's Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mansour al-Houshabi, the rise was by 46% compared to the prior year.

It should be noted that 90 percent of Yemen's wheat supply is imported. Yahya Al-Mutawakil, Yemeni Minister of Trade & Industry said recently that the price of American white wheat fell 16 percent since the beginning of May, and the government plans to continue encouraging wheat farming as a follow-up to its newly-introduced food security policy.
